Can I be the Pink Wiggle? September 14, 2009

Jane with 'Blue Wiggle' Anthony FieldI’ve just spent a morning hanging out with The Wiggles and had so much fun!

They were making their annual appearance at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast and I had the opportunity to do an interview and have a front row spot at the show.  I felt a bit like a pathetic groupie, but you know what, The Wiggles are cool!  You have to admire a bunch of people who have become some of the highest paid entertainers in the world doing something that’s great for kids.

I was blown away by some of the stats: they have sold more than 23 million DVDs and their television series is now broadcast in more than 100 countries. At Dreamworld, where they have “Wiggles World” (along with Wiggles Bay at the WhiteWater World theme park next door), about half a million people a year go on the “Big Red Car” ride alone.

They’re damn nice people, too. We bumped into ‘Blue Wiggle’ Anthony Field (above) in the car park as we arrived and he stopped in his tracks to talk to the kids (who have not stopped talking about it since). He even remembered their names when I was chatting to him later.

I should, however, have taken the opportunity to beat him around the head for all the times I’ve had a Wiggles song stuck in my head for days on end. If you’ve ever lain awake with “toot toot, chugga chugga” or “hot potato, hot potato” going around and around in your head, you’ll know what I mean.

I love this post Jane. My kids are getting older now, almost 5 & almost 7, but I still get Wiggles songs stuck in my head, and must agree that they really are pretty cool! What a great experience for you and your family, thanks for sharing!

Hey Tracey, good to hear from you. I’m not sure what it says about us when we get excited about meeting a children’s entertainment group!
Hope to see you in sunny Noosa sometime.
Jane
