Travellers aged 60 and over can claim big savings on European rail passes. Leading rail booking agency Rail Plus has created a new 60+ price category for Eurail passes, offering discounts of up to 20 per cent on standard adult prices.

The discount is available on a range of popular Eurail passes, for passengers travelling with at least one companion at all times. Rail Plus has created the discount by cutting into its own margins, so the deal is exclusive to the company, although it is possible its competitors will follow suit.

The national sales and marketing manager for Rail Plus, Greg McCallum, says mature travellers have long been attracted to the convenience and cost-effectiveness of rail and the new discounts will make rail travel in Europe even more appealing. Under the new 60+ category, the price of a first-class, 10-day ‘Select Pass’ comes down to $606 per person (a discount of $139, or nearly 19 per cent), while a first-class, 10-day ‘Global Flexi Pass’ starts at $748 per person (a saving of $170, or 18.5 per cent).

The discounted fares are available through Rail Plus’s website and call centre as well as through travel agents.
